Writing style[]
Baxter's works are strongly influenced by the works of H.G. Wells (most notably including The Time Ships, a sequel to The War of the Worlds and The Massacre of Mankind, a sequel to The War of the Worlds). Along with this, Baxter's works are frequently influenced by scientific topics (such as the Xeelee Sequence and Evolution).
Baxter mainly writes in two genres - science fiction and alternate history (such as the NASA Trilogy and Anti-Ice, which blends science fiction and alternate history).
