Before becoming a novelist, MORRIS WEST had several careers, among them twelve years as a monk. He has written over twenty novels, including The Devil's Advocate, Daughter of Silence, The Ambassador, The Tower of Babel, and The World Is Made of Glass. His work has been published in twenty-seven languages. Morris West has worked and traveled all over the world, and now lives in Australia, where he was born. - from the first edition of Lazarus MORRIS WEST has written twenty-five novels and several books of nonfiction, many of which - including The Shoes of the Fisherman, The Clowns of God, and The Devil's Advocate - have become international bestsellers. Writing style[]
West frequently writes about international politics and the changing role of the Vatican in the modern world. A common theme within his novels is the dilemma of using violence against evil forces. A notable example of this is Proteus.
