Morgan Scott Peck (1936-2005) was a psychiatrist and author. Peck is best known for his book The Road Less Traveled.
Life[]
Born in May of 1936 in New York City to a Quaker family, Peck was sent by them to the boarding school Philips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire when he was thirteen - where, according to Peck in The Road Less Traveled, he had a miserable time. This led him to refuse to reenter the school after returning home on spring holiday - which led to his parents sending him to a psychiatrist who diagnosed him with depression. Despite this (and the psychiatrist's recommendation of a month's stay in a psychiatric hospital), Peck entered into Manhattan's Friends Seminary and graduated from the school in 1954. He then got a bachelor's degree from Harvard and an MD from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
