Chris Colfer (1990-) is an author and actor. He is known for his fantasy novels, most notably writing the six-book series The Land of Stories, along with the prequel, A Tale of Magic... series. Colfer won the Golden Globe in 2011. He is also gay, and is currently in a relationship with Will Sherrod, who is an actor and producer, since 2013.

Childhood[]

Chris Colfer was born in Clovis, California on May 27, 1990, to Karyn Colfer and Timothy Colfer. He says that he wanted to be an actor at a young age, but he would also write things as well, and that he is of Irish decent/ancestry. Since his sister had epilepsy, and therefore needed much of his parents attention and time, Colfer coped by writing fantasy. As a child he was in a hospital for three months due to a lymph node surgery. Colfer says this was one of the experiences that made him interested in fictional worlds.

When in middle school, Colfer was bullied so badly that he ended up getting homeschooled. By high school, though, he was able to return to the school building and attended Clovis High School. When he did return, he was involved in his high school's speech and debate program. Colfer placed ninth in the State Competition for Dramatic Interpretation as one of his "champion titles."

During high school, Colfer was involved with the East Clovis High School Speech & Debate program, where he won many awards and titles. He was also the editor of the school's literary magazine.

Adulthood[]

Chris Colfer owns a pair of sai swords, and he practices using them in his trailer when not on set. When he auditioned for the part of Artie Abrams, the casting directors were so impressed that they wrote the character of Kurt Hummel in for him. (Kevin McHale got the part of Artie Abrams)

Performing/Acting[]

Chris Colfer's acting career started relatively early when he was in a community theater production of West Side Story. He then went on to play the part of Kurt Hummel, a gay character in the show Glee that is constantly bullied for being gay.
