Barbara Mertz (or Elizabeth Peters and Barbara Michaels, 1927-2013) was an author. Mertz was best known for her novels featuring Amelia Peabody.

Writing style[]

Mertz's writings are notable for their feminist leanings - most notably the Amelia Peabody series and several of her Barbara Michaels novels (including Houses of Stone).

Due to being an Egyptologist (with a doctorate from the University of Chicago), the subject of Egypt (and history in general) feature frequently in her works.
