Publisher's summary[]
The fascination with the natural wonder that is our body is as old as mankind itself.
The purpose of this volume is to help us understand how the incredible machine that is the human body is built and how it works. How do the eleven different systems that are required to keep us alive and perpetuate the species function--first on their own, and then together?
Anatographica offers a complete human anatomy that shows how the body is constructed, accompanied by step by step physiology features that demonstrate how it works. The accompanying text, while authoritative, is clear and easy to understand.
The unique and amazing imagery presented here is the world's first anatomically exact, complete, three-dimensional reconstruction of an actual human body. From the thousands of cross-sections of the National Library of Medicine's Visible Human Project TM, a 3D matrix was painstakingly created. The result was recreation of the exact forms of the body and all its parts.
As these images exists in three dimensions, they can be turned, opened, or even passed through. Systems can be viewed in isolation, like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle; regions can be "dissected" progressively, by peeling away layers to reveal those underneath. For the first time it is possible to "see" Inside real tissue. Subjects can be made as lifelike as possible, or be manipulated to emphasize specific systems or organs. All the images are completely accurate in terms of their spatial relationships and how they appear in an actual individual.
The illustrations presented in this book are so breathtaking that they may be seen by many to reside more in the realm of art than science. Not only are they fantastic to look at, but they are at the same time real.
