Dorothy Gale McShane[1] (most commonly known as Ace) is a major character in Doctor Who.
Character[]
Initially shown as a reckless teenager with a propensity for explosives (usually Nitro-9[2]), Ace has one of the most fractured futures of any companion of the Doctor (largely due to the cancellation of Doctor Who in 1989). Ace has various different futures which are all possibly canon[3], with most of these leading to her leaving the Doctor and leading a fufilling life (though at least one[4] ends in her death).
In the New Adventures, Ace is shown joining Spacefleet[5] after leaving the Doctor[6] for a brief time.

History[]
Early life[]
Born on the twentieth of August of 1970[7], Ace was raised by her mother (Audrey Dudman) - who she grew to despise[8]. Ace gained an extremely good knowledge of chemistry, devising the explosive Nitro-9[2] and blowing up the art room of her school as a "creative statement"[9].
In 1983, the home of her friend Manisha was firebombed by skinheads[10] (either killing Manisha[11] or nearly killing her[12][13]). To vent her rage, Ace burned down an old manor named Gabriel Chase[10].
Several years after this (due to the machinations of Fenric[8] with the help of Halogi-Kari[3]) Ace was caught in a time storm and brought to the planet Svartos in the far future[2].

After being stranded on Earth due to the damage the TARDIS incurred by its Process infestation[14], Ace helped out the Doctor's assault on the Butler Corporation's plan to essentially ignore the destruction of Earth due to climate change and pollution. To do this, she gained the support of Kurdish mercenaries in Turkey (though she was nearly killed by one of the mercenaries) and unearthed a barrel containing psychic conduit Vincent Wheaton along with helping the Doctor recruit environmentalist Justine.
Later on, Ace was thrown into jail after being found by police officer Mancuso (who was a part of the Doctor's plan and whose gun was inhabited by the "spirit" of her dead partner, McIlveen) and narrowly escaped having her organs harvested by the Butler Corporation. She helped to rescue Justine from the Butler Corporation after Justine faked her own death with tetrodotoxin.
